Huka Falls Trail
Bike the iconic 17 kilometre loop around the Huka Falls in Taupō
Learn more about one of the most popular rides in Taupō, the Huka Falls Trail.
This seventeen kilometre loop has an incredible variety of scenery including the famous Huka Falls, views of New Zealand's first geothermal power station.
The Trail
The loop starts at our mountain bike shop and continues along the Waikato river bringing you out to the Aratiatia dam where you can see the opening of the control gates (tourist spill). After seeing the incredible Aratiatia rapids at full flow, where The Hobbit was filmed, your ride returns via the breath-taking geothermal streams to our store.
If you're choosing the option to ride with a guide you will learn more about the area, sustainable geothermal and hydro energy production in Taupo. Including a brief on Māori history in the region that was discovered by the Māori chief Tia.

“We had a fantastic ride around the Huka Trail thanks to Jonny and the team at FourB. We hadn't really researched the ride when we arrived but were given plenty of advice from the team while they got us set up with bikes, helmets, etc. The trail is nice - single track to begin with (as you go anti-clockwise from FourB) passing the Huka Falls then climbing up to look over the river. The views of the river, power station and prawn farm were epic. Further up the track turns to a 4WD road before crossing at Aratiatia Dam. Return trip is mostly 4WD road and flatter than the first leg. Took us 2 hours on the dot at an easy pace. A really nice ride. Thanks to the team at Four B for an awesome morning.”
